Experience
Essential
Mechanical Engineering Co-op
Boston, MA
January - July 2016
Essential is a comprehensive product design consultancy that offers expertise in four primary categories: engineering, design, research, and digital experiences. Inspired by their innovative energy, I was able to develop many skills while gaining a broader understanding of product development. I learned advanced 3D modeling strategies such as master modeling, and increased my DFM and DFA skills while freqently 3D printing and machining. Rapid prototyping was a frequent necessity for my projects, and I explored new methods with Arduino and breadboards which developed my electronics and coding skills.
Philips Color Kinetics
Mechanical Engineering Co-op
Burlington, MA
January - July 2015
Philips Color Kinetics designs high power LED lighting solutions for architectural settings. For example, they designed and implemented the impressive lighting display at the top of the Empire State Building. While at Philips, I learned about the product development process through two different long-term projects. I refined my design skills using SolidWorks and I gained official certification for both SolidWorks and SolidWorks simulation. Also, I gained FEA, CFD, and 3D printing skills allowing me to analyze designs both virtually and physically.
Parker Aerospace
R&D Co-op
Devens, MA
January - July 2014
At Parker Aerospace I worked in the Gas Turbine Fuel Systems Division specifically working at a facility that designed and manufactured gerotor pumps for lubricating aircraft engines. While using a variety of hand tools, I developed many hands-on skills including machining (lathe, milling), wiring, and soldering. I had the opportunity to work on data acquisition and automation (programming) for the testing of pumps. I also designed and implemented a few parts to increase test stand functionality.
Associated Environmental Systems
Engineering Intern
Ayer, MA
May - August 2013
Associated environmental systems makes high quality thermal test chambers for many companies including Apple. During my first engineering internship I gained exposure to a very compact company with manufacturing and engineering in the same building. I primarily aided the head engineer in the design of thermal test chambers using SolidWorks Sheet Metal. Other projects included creating work instructions, working through ECOs, updating drawing design formats, as well as assisting the company in their transition to an all-digital format.
Moncreaffs American Kenpo Karate Academy
Head Instructor
Acton, MA
2008-2014 when available (see below)
As a martial artist at Moncreaff's, I achieved the rank of 2nd degree black belt after 11 years of hard work. I was the second person to receive this rank in the 20 years Moncreaffs has been in operation. In order to achieve this rank, I would train up to 20 hours per week, teaching and taking various classes to increase my abilities. While teaching, I would supervise other instructors and run the school when the owner was away. I taught classes to children and adults of all abilities and levels. After beginning college in 2012 I continued to teach when I was in the area and regularly during the summers.
