Computer Stand - Associated Environmental Systems
Problem -
Create a fully adjustable computer stand every worker on the manufacturing floor will be given (~10).
-
This project was part of the transition to a paperless system in the company
-
Chromebook computers were ordered and used to access mechanical, refrigeration, and electrical drawings based on what was necessary
-
Basic constraints for this project was that it had to use scrap metal in the shop (12 gauge sheet steel) and a design sketch for me to use was given to me
Process -
-
During this project, I created the basic design by asking the shop what they wanted to see in the product (cup holders was a fairly surprising request)
-
After compiling the information, I prototyped some integral parts (such as the adjustability) to see if my design thoughts would work
-
Then, I formed a full prototype and once again talked to everyone to see what they wanted changed
Solution -
-
The prototypes helped me realize some design flaws
-
Changes were made to the system to increase its effectiveness
-
I made the remaining 7 computer stands and adjusted them to each workers heights and preferences
What I learned -
-
Design for manufacturing
-
Design for assembly
-
Research and design
-
Conversion of CAD to machine language (G-code)
-
Laser Cutting
